Common errors

Previous Top Next |
· | Scheduled task does not run
Backup2005 Pro creates a scheduled task in the Windows Task Scheduler.
Windows Task scheduler needs a user account with password to run any task. This allows to run the job even if the user is logged off.
This is the main error, but other reasons are also possible. If you use a drive letter (C:\...) instead of an UNC path (\\computer\C\...) and add a new drive. The drive letter can now point to another source (or destination).
· | Using a mapped drive letter instead of an UNC path in a scheduled backup set
Mapped drive is only recognized by the operating system when the user is logged on. So if the job is executed when the user is logged off the mapped drive is unknown and the backup job will fail.

· | Back up data from a NTFS disk partition to a FAT32 partition
In a network environment one can find both disk partitions. Sometimes one use an old Windows 98 to back up data from a Windows 2000 or XP computer. Generally Windows 2000 and XP use NTFS then Windows 98 was installed on FAT32 partition. If you back up more than 2 GB of data the archive file will be corrupted. If you wish to back up data in a such configuration just take care of the data size (use the evaluate function if needed).
· | NEVER NEVER NEVER remove data without verifying the archive file
· | Using formatted CDRW or DVDRW with the internal burner driver
When a medium is formatted to be used through a packet writer software (e.g. Nero Incd) it uses the UDF file system while a blank medium uses the CDFS file system. Of course you can use RW medium with Backup2005 Pro but it must be blank or if you have selected the erase medium option. In this case the UDF file system will be removed before burning process.
· | Using CDR, DVDR or blank CDRW, DVDRW with packet writer software
If you prefer to use a packet writer software (direct access to the medium) like Roxio Direct CD or Nero Incd you must use RW medium formatted otherwise the wrting process will raise an exception error and the backup job will fail.
